HANDWRITING QUESTIONS: WEEK #14: COPYING FROM THE BOARD

All of these skills must be integrated for a child to write, especially when copying from the board.

10. Is the writing legible when the student copies several sentences from the chalkboard?
a. Does he/she take longer to the copy the sentences than expected?
b. Does he/she space the letters and words correctly on the line?
c. Does the spelling maintain its correctness?
d. Is the grammar, punctuation, etc. correct?

Copying from the board requires adequate short-term memory, remembering where you stopped on the chalkboard, where to place the sentence on the paper, writing the sentence, and returning to the chalkboard.  Weaknesses in memory, a physical visual weakness, a perceptual weakness or difficulty with attending may affect copying from afar.
